Ellon claim last ball win

An extremely sporting gesture by FPs Paul McDonald, who awarded a last ball LBW against teammate Chris Clelland, allowed Ellon to claim victory in dramatic fashion. After an aggressive 79, Ellon had racked up 189 for 6 in 35 overs before FPs responded to 132 all out. They had looked like they would cling on after some resolute batting from Khan 31 and Eagles 23 but from the final ball of the game a fairly muted appeal from Ellon was met with a positive verdict to give them a deserved victory. FP’s 2nd XI well beaten by Knightriders

Scotland could solve it’s energy problem for years by installing wind turbines at Sheddocksley. But then, where would the council find pitches for the Grades to play cricket each ‘summer’? Sheddocksley, the land that Global Warming forgot, home ground of Knightriders, and venue for the Reid Cup 40 over match against Grammar FP’s.

FP’s made no fewer than 9 changes to the team which beat Ellon 2nds the previous day. Rama and the man with the sore head Shriram were the only two who played against Ellon, and were joined by Johnston, Geoff Morrison, Pehlaj, Paul MacDonald, Roland Knudson, Tom Booth, with Tom Murray and Melvin Joy playing their first game of the season and Paul Norwood making his FP’s debut.

Ellon 2nd XI well beaten by FP’s 2nd XI

Last seasons matches against Ellon 2nd XI were both exciting encounters, played in good spirit, and both teams were looking forward to a similar match at Rubislaw.

FP’s made four changes to the team which drew with Knightriders, Magesh, Pehlaj, Frizzell and Whyte were unavailable and in came Mike Blues, Craig Fraser, Rizwan and Shriram.

FP’s 2nds draw with Knightriders

Grammar FP’s 2nd XI were happy to welcome Grade 3 newcomers Knightriders to Rubislaw for the first time since joining the Grades. The immaculately kitted out Knightriders were obviously keen to play at Rubislaw as all eleven were out practising on the outfield over half an hour before the match was due to start, some 45 minutes before Magesh was due to show up.

FP’s team had to make four changes from the Stonehaven match, out through injury went Johnston and Blues, Graham Ramsay was unavailable and his agent Ian Goodenough was en route to the beaches of Majorca on a ‘talent scouting’ mission. Into the team came Kieron Whyte, Karthik, John Davey and 2nd XI debutant Pehlaj.

Battling FPs edged out by Mannofield in thriller

FPs produced a far improved performance but slipped to a narrow 2 wicket defeat to Mannofield in an exciting match in which all 4 results remained possible right until the end.  FPs look dead and buried after just 8 overs as they slumped to 21 for 5, but a typically eccentric 57 from Zahid Khan at number 9, 39 from Aly MacDonald at number 7 and 21 from Roland Knudson at number 10, plus  a useful 13 not out from last man Stuart helping to add 53 for the last wicket allowed FPs to reach 198 all out.  Tom Booth took 3 for 54 and Roland Knudson 2 for 24 but an excellent 60 from Rana and 46 from Reddy allowed Mannofield to squeeze home by 2 wickets in a game played in a great spirit with both teams fighting hard to try and win. Rain ruins FP’s run chase

After the driest April in 100 years, rain had to come and unfortunately it arrived on Saturday just as the FP 2nd XI match was reaching an interesting stage against Stonehaven 2nd XI.

FP’s won he toss and asked Stonehaven to bat on the new artificial wicket at Rubislaw. Nick Blyth had impressed at nets, but it soon became apparent he had used up all his luck while dismissing his captain three times at practice, as openers Gibson and King egded several deliveries passed and over various fielders. Blyth bowled well in both his spells, and deserved the two wickets he took in his second spell. Continue reading

FPs can’t compete with Champions

FPs were brushed aside in just over 2 hours by a powerful Bon Accord side in a ten wicket defeat at the Links.  FPs were all out for 56, Whyte top scoring with 13, before Bon Accord knocked off the runs inside 8 overs. Continue reading

FP’s 2nds outplay strong Gordonians side

The 2011 Grade 3 season for AGSFP’s 2nd XI began with a visit to old rivals Gordonians at Countesswells. FP’s 2nd XI had struggled to get a team together, but despite 14 players being unavailable, fielded a full team, including three debutants in Sandeep, Shriram and schoolboy Andy Milne. Grammar won the toss and asked a strong looking Gordonians side to bat first.

Under Par FPs secure Cults Draw

An patchy performance from FPs on the opening day was enough to secure a draw against Cults who smashed 218for 5 declared in 37 overs.  FPs were indebted to a gritty 50 from John Lord, a steady 37 from John Eagles and a typically unorthodox 20 not out from Zahid Khan as FPs secured 16 points despite dropping 5 catches and conceding 89 in the first ten overs. FP XI thwarted by rain at Dunecht

An FP XI were unable to secure a pre season victory at Dunecht after heavy rain brought the game to a premature end.  Dunecht won the toss and asked FPs to bat on a very green pitch but Geoff Morrison struck 45 and both Paul McDonald and Karthick retired having notched half centuries as FPs cruised  254 for 5 in 40 overs.  In response Karthick struck in his first over as McDonald took a chance at gully, but rain intervened shortly after.  All in all it was a good workout for the FP bastmecn ahead of the 1st league game next Saturday.
