Aly MacDonald and Roland Knudson bothdelivered fine performances with the ball as FPs recored a comfortable 8 wicket win. MacDonald knocked over the top order claiming 4 for 19 and Knudson mopped up the tail with 5 for 11 as Fraserburgh slumped from 61 for 1 to 90 all out. A composed 41 not out from Budd and a typically aggresive 34 not out from Youlesensured that victory was recorded with relative ease.
Skipper Knudson once again won the toss and elected to field. John Lord and Moir were both again ruled out by injury and FPsmade 2 changes with Muthu and Whyte replacing Frizzelland Stuart. James Lord shared the new ball with Miller while Bowie and Watson made a watchful start moving the score to 27 from 12 overs. After Lord’s spell of 6 overs for 12 he was replaced by Sam Knudson and FPs achieved a breakthrough from his second ball. Watson hit a drive out to cover where MacDonald gathered just inside the boundary and his accurate throw found Watson short trying to run a third, Knudson composed under pressure to break the wicket as Watson departed for 10.
Roland Knudson replaced Miller at the pavilion end, but it was MacDonald who replaced Sam Knudson with the score on 61, that made instant inroads clean bowling Bowie with his second ball for a well played 37. He followed this up in his next over having Flowerdew brilliantly caught by Clelland standing up for 2, before making it 3 wickets in 3 overs as he clean bowled Parkin for 2.
Knudson then got in on the act claiming 5 wickets in 3 overs as first he bowled Gospel for 1, repated the dose for Clark who having struck a six and a four in aggressive knock fell for 11 and 4 balls later he had Rennie well caught in the gully by James Lord for a duck – 88 for 7.
McDonald claimed his 4th wicket as L Bowie sportingly walked after the faintest of edges to depart for a hard fought 14 before Knudsonbowled Lawrence and Smith to bowl Fraserburgh out for 90. Knudson’s 5 for 11 was a highlight but MacDonald did for the top order with 4 for 19 and they were well supported by the other bowlers Miller 8-3-15-0, Lord 6-2-12-0 and Sam Knudson 6-0-12-0.
Budd opened with skipper Knudson but they were dealt an early blow when Knudson was well caught off the bowling of Clark for 3. Clelland joined Budd and through some fine strokeplay from Budd, who hit 3 quick fours and some smart running converting 1s into 2s, they added 34 to move the score to 45. However, with Clelland on 9, he was victim to the infamous Rubislaw shooter to be bowled by Rennie’s first delivery.
Youles arrived at 4 and within 20 minutes he had hammered 34 not out from 20 balls as he and Budd added an unbeaten stand of 47 to claim the 30 points. Youles was particularly severe on Bowie clubbing him for 17 in one over as he hit 7 fours on his way to 34 not out.
Overall, it was a good victory for FPs and a good test of their bowling depth. Fraserburgh once again proved they are one of the most sporting sides in the league and both sides were able to enjoy the game. Next week FPs face Artisans who they failed to beat in 3 attempts last season.
