In a commanding display, Knightriders registered a convincing 7-wicket victory over Grammar at Groats Road. Chasing a target of 168, the Knightriders’ top order made light work of the total, reaching 168/3 in just 28.1 overs.
Garwood’s Fireworks in Vain
Grammar, opting to bat first, never truly found their rhythm despite a superb knock from Ben Garwood, who hammered a blistering 61 off just 39 balls, including 8 boundaries and 2 towering sixes. His counter-attacking innings gave Grammar a fighting chance, lifting them to a modest 167 for 9 in 40 overs.
Earlier in the innings, the top order struggled to find fluency. Captain Haider (24 off 51) and Alex Keith (23 off 47) attempted to build a foundation, but Knightriders’ disciplined bowling disrupted any hopes of momentum. A flurry of wickets in the middle overs put Grammar under serious pressure.
Chaudhari and Kumarasamy Shine
The Knightriders’ bowling was spearheaded by the fiery Chaudhari, who returned superb figures of 3 for 19 from his 8 overs, including the dismissals of both Grammar openers. Kumarasamy also impressed with 3 wickets for 22 in 4 overs, and U Raghavendra contributed with one wicket in an economical spell.
Despite 21 extras conceded, the Knightriders’ attack maintained control and never let Grammar take charge.
Palaniappan Powers the Chase
In reply, the Knightriders’ chase was built around a powerful innings from skipper Palaniappan, who smashed 70 off 66 deliveries, featuring 9 boundaries and 4 sixes. He formed a dominant opening stand of 130 with Mohan (41 off 53), effectively batting Grammar out of the contest.
Although Grammar managed a brief comeback with Tanvir claiming 2 wickets, the total proved too low to defend. Knightriders completed the chase in just 28.1 overs, sealing a comfortable win.
Grammar’s bowling lacked penetration apart from Tanvir (2 for 41) and Garwood (1 for 23), while 25 extras — including 20 wides — added to their woes. The fielding effort failed to capitalize on pressure moments, allowing Knightriders to dominate proceedings.
