Aberdeen Grammar FPs Cricket Club

FPs slumped to 56 all out for the 2nd time this season to slide to a 108 run defeat to league leaders Stonehaven.  Things had looked bright at the half way stage after FPs dismissed Stonehaven for 164, after they had been 99 for no wicket.  However, some excellent bowling by Clive Hinchcliffe (3 for 4) and Russell Balsillie 3 for 19, left FPs reeling at 17 for 6 and they were never able to recover. Heavy rain meant no play was possible at Banchory with the game called off on Saturday morning.  FPs tackle leaders Stonehaven next week at Rubislaw and will hope for better weather after two weekends of rain.

FPs failed to qualify for the semi finals last night as they lost both matches to Stoneywood Dyce and Cults A.  FPs never got going against Stoneywood Dyce and struggled up to a below par 46 for 5.  Despite Sam Knudson taking 2 wickets in two balls in the opening over, Stoneywood Dyce eased to vistory inside 4 overs.

FPs 2nd showing was far stronger as they made 75 for 5 with Sam Knudson making 23 and Paul McDonald hitting the biggest six of the night.  Cults squeezed to victory with 3 balls remaining despite another fine bowling effort from Sam Knudson 1-9 and 2-14 from Geoff Morrison.

FPs and St.Ronald were thwarted by persistent rain as only 15 overs were possible at Kings College on a damp afternoon.  FPs claimed 2 early wickets James Lord having Theron caught by John Davey and Sam Knudson claiming the wicket of Mudie who edged to Clelland.  St Ronald had then consolidated to 48 for 2 when rain brought an end to play.  FPs now head to Banchory next week hoping for better weather.

Kintore held firm to deny FPs victory in another exciting match in which all results remained possible until the closing overs.  Skipper Roland Knudson was nearly the hero as he produced an inspired spell of 6 for 29 as Kintore slumped from 113 for 1 to end up hanging on at 171 for 8.  FPs had earlier made 201 for 9 declared from 43 overs with Tom Booth hitting 57 and Martyn Budd 43.  In reply Gareth Prosser hit an excellent 54 in an opening stand of 88. An extremely sporting gesture by FPs Paul McDonald, who awarded a last ball LBW against teammate Chris Clelland, allowed Ellon to claim victory in dramatic fashion. After an aggressive 79, Ellon had racked up 189 for 6 in 35 overs before FPs responded to 132 all out. They had looked like they would cling on after some resolute batting from Khan 31 and Eagles 23 but from the final ball of the game a fairly muted appeal from Ellon was met with a positive verdict to give them a deserved victory.
