1s edge past 2s at Rubislaw

It was a slightly odd situation as 1s faced 2s at Rubislaw with both sides rooted in the relegation places. 2s played extremely well, batting well to make 176 all out and had 1s in some difficulty at 27 for 3, but a sensible knock from Geoff Morrison (41) and some expansive shot play from Salman Bedaar (72no) broke the bat of the case and 1s edged to victory, moving them up the league but still locked in an intense relegation battle.

2s opted to bat first, hoping to post a defendable total. 2s innings was a tale of missed opportunities and sporadic partnerships. Despite a promising middle-order stand, they failed to build momentum, losing a number of wickets in the final 10 overs. Jim Lee was dropped a tough one handed chance by Morrison but was snapped up at square leg top eding Prsh to Usman for 6, Prash back bowling as he works his way back from a knee injury. Maylar and Saboor then combined in an entertaining stand of 34, Maylar hitting some fine shots before cutting Aavash straight o Prash at pint for 17. Saboor and Nasseri then cnsolidated adding 43, Aavash striking again, Hasaan taking a fine catch at long off, the batter gone for 31.

Kashif made 17 but become the 1st of 4 vicyims for Salman Bedaar, plumb LBW for 17. 1s then got dangerman Nasseri for 39, sharply stumped by Morrison. Swiergon was rolled out for a rare bowl and picked up Tanvir for 13, Hassaan taking a well judged catch, 2s 160 for 6 which was soon 160 for 8 as Bedaar finished his spell with 2 wickets off his last 2 balls, bowling Mailari for 6 and Biggs being caught and bowled for a duck.

1s had chances to finish things off but dropped catches, Morrison catching Hartley though to give Swiergon a 2nd wicket. Youngster Bilal looked promising keeping out the bowling, before last man Navaid was run out for 3, a superb direct hit by Murray.

Salman Bedaar was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets and breaking the backbone of the middle order. Aavash and Swiergon chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. Extras proved costly for 1s, with 31 wides contributing significantly to the total.

1s chase started shakily, losing three quick wickets. Keith was sensationally caught one handed by the diving Lee and Bin Khalid having looked in good form, was boled looking to force the pace. Swiergon then fell sweeping for 12 and 1s were 27 for 3. However, a composed partnership between Geoff Morrison and Salman Bedaar steadied the ship. Morrison was heappy to play himself in and hit any loose bowling but Bedaar was the dominant player in a stand of 110. morrison fell for 41, bowled by an excellent ball Maylar but the back of the chase was broken. 2s tried lots of bolwers and Patrick Hartley picked up his 1st wicket as Murray chipped him to Mailari. Bedaar’s aggressive strokeplay though, had turned the tide, and 1s reached the winning post  with 4 wickets in hand.

Overall it was a decent bowling effort from 2s especially Tanvir, who struck early, removing both openers. Ibrahimikhel and Saboor picked up key wickets but ultimately no one could contain Bedaar’s onslaught. Extras again proved costly, with 27 wides gifting momentum to the chasing side.

Player of the Match: Salman Bedaar, Batting: 72* (55 balls, 12 fours) Bowling: 8-1-31-4. A complete all-round performance that defined the match. Bedaar’s calm under pressure and attacking intent with the bat, combined with his incisive bowling, made him the standout performer.

It is quite odd to have an interclub match in a league campaign, but the game was played with good humour by all and many players enhanced their reputation on a lovely afternoon at Rubislaw. Next for 1s it a very tough game against Champions elect Bon Accord while 2s take on Masterblasters.
