Powerful batting display gets 2s off the mark

Hassan Masood made a match winning 63 as 2s romped to a 127 run win at Fraserburgh. He found useful support throughout the innings as Grammar made 220 for 9. Some tight bowling soon had Fraserburgh in the mire and despite Chris Gospel’s unbeaten 46, Fraserburgh never threatened to chase down the Grammar score.

Sameer’s excellent new ball bowling delivered 2 for 11, with Kashif bagging 2 for 20 and Asif 2 for 22. Ben Garwood knocked over the lower order with 3 for 56 in his 2 overs as Grammar claimed an encouraging win.

3s Bash Methlick Aside

Grammar Cricket’s 3rd team kept up their winning start to the season easily seeing off the challenge of Methlick at Inverdee. Rasib Bashir making a memorable debut taking 3 for 12 in his 8 overs and striking a cultured 43 not out from 44 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Khalid Zia who made 17 in an opening stand of 52 which helped Grammar make short work of Methlick’s 69 all out, 3 quick wickets at least boosting Methlick’s points total.

As well as 3 wickets from Bashir, skipper Babar Kamal claimed 3 for 7 in his 8 overs with Ali Shah claiming 2. Next up for 3s is a tricky home game against Grampian.

Teams for Weekend Matches – Saturday 3rd May

3rds gain Grammar bragging rights in season opener

A new era for Grammar cricket started on Saturday with a slightly peculiar occurrence as the 2nd XI met the 3rd XI on a chill day at Rubislaw. With the recent poor weather, it was a soft outfield and long grass that greeted the teams

This all meant that boundaries proved hard to come by. 2nd Aberdeen Grammar were in a lot of trouble at 58 for 7, but 45 from Asif Yousuf gave the innings some respectability, topped up by Abdul Saboor contributing an unbeaten 32 batting at number 9 as they were all out for 145 in the 39th over.

In the 2nd innings, Ali Naseem took 3 for 22 as 2nd Aberdeen Grammar took control against their 3rds. Sameer Bin Khalid stuck in for the 3rds but they looked out of it as Abdul Saboor picked up 3 for 34 to put the 3rds 9 wickets down with 117 on the board. From that point Bin Khalid monopolised the strike and the scoring and he whacked a 6 in the 35th over to snatch victory. Bin Khalid 54 not out as the 3rds won bragging rights over the 2nds.
